I am Blessed...

I am 55 years old today and have come to the realization that I am Blessed. God has Blessed me in so many ways and this day, my birthday, is and always has been a very special day to me. Special and unique things seem to happen on this date (for me that is).

There have been many birthdays in my life and all special in different ways, but starting with last year, it seems, that the “Special” things just seem to keep happening to me!

On my birthday last year, God gave me the “trip” of a lifetime! He placed me on a plane bound for Europe! Germany to be exact! God gave me a “new start” so to speak. I had (and still have) a wonderful marriage and it almost seemed that God was giving me (and my husband) the “honeymoon” that we could never afford in our early days of marriage. I mean, think of it! I (we) would be in Europe—traveling to different cities and countries that previously I had only read about or seen in movies. I would be seeing sights that were only in my thoughts and imagination!

If you knew me personally, you would know that my whole adult life, has been devoted to husband, children, grandchildren, and job. Now, it seems that all of a sudden God has given me a vacation from the immediacy of some of the above. Meaning that of late, my only worry(s) have been not centered on seeing to the needs of others (although there have been those moments of worry for my son, daughter, and grandchildren). My only worries it seems have been, “...hmm... where shall we go this weekend, Paris? Venice? Berlin? Belgium? How ‘bout Greece for our anniversary?” Well...I think you get the picture.

God has also Blessed me with a whole year off from having to go to work! Think about it...I have been employed and have had to work my entire adult life. I wore many “work” hats. I was a wife, mommy, small business owner, Master Sergeant (yes, as in Air Force Reserves...military!), office worker, and basically your “Chief cook and bottle washer”!! But back to this “...whole year off...” my primary role (during this year) was just staying home, getting up when I wanted, doing what I wanted, eating what I wanted...oh yeah...I did cook and clean on occasion!

So, what does this have to do with my 55th birthday? Well, I knew the “bubble” would burst one day—you know the ‘ol “too good to be true” theory came into play. I knew that one day I would have to go back to being a member of the “employed work force”. And, during my “year off” I did actively seek employment. Now you would think, “why would she be so happy today? She’s going to work (on her birthday)! It took her a whole year to find a job!” ...what’s to be happy about??? Well, you might look at it that way, but I choose not to!

Today is my birthday and I have to go to work! God had Blessed me (on my birthday) with a job! Now you could choose to look at that in a negative sense, but think about it... I had a “whole” year off from work! Our finances did not “kill” us in the respect that without my income we would have to be poverty stricken or file Bankruptcy! Quite the contrary! Somehow God had always Blessed us and Provided for us! He even Helped us out when there were serious needs for our children back home in the States. God has been with us always!

Today I awoke to a phone call from a florist wanting to know where to deliver flowers. Flowers! I can only recall flowers being sent to me on three different occasions in my whole life! That call made me feel special right off!
So you see, “...Today is my 55th birthday...” AND I am Blessed! December 12th (12/12) is very special and always will be!
